The dogs

Signi’s dogs are unique in their performance. In the Netherlands and far beyond they have found many people – in the most extraordinary situations. This is only possible by training very purposefully and on practical situations. Every dog meets the very strict training requirements of Signi search dogs and the handlers have of course obtained all conceivable certificates. We would like to introduce the dogs to you:

Blackthorns watersearchdog, Signi’s operationial Salto (S.O.S)

Salto comes from the well-known field trial labrador kennel from Hungary: Blackthorns Gundogs. Where in the Netherlands the Malines are the toppers for world-class police forces, these labradors are world-class for field trial hunting! This form of hunting search is in many ways similar to that of the Signi search dogs. The Blackthorn Gundogs (https://www.blackthorngundogs.com) have therefore been chosen, as these dogs practice (field trial) hunting at world level and are bred in a very responsible way (both genetic and animal-friendly). Salto is a hard worker who likes to search. No blackberry bush, nettle or rubble is too much for her. “Freeing” is really her thing. In the water Salto is free and relaxed, cold temperatures do not affect her. She also makes great leaps forward in mantrailing, both figuratively and in practice! Salto is a very promising, deployable search dog!

Girl Power Signi (G.P.S.)

Power is a very energetic and athletic Malinois with exceptional search abilities. Power has an exceptional concentration on the ‘smell’. During the quick search she uses her mind and patient working out is also in her system. Power is therefore developing excellently in all search areas. Power will be used step by step.
Power comes from the working dog kennel ‘the Old Oak’ from Berlicum (http://www.werkhondenkennel-theoldoak.nl). Power’s mother, Beau, is one of the best search dogs in the Netherlands within the KNPV. She has obtained almost all search certificates within the KNPV with very good results, both in the field of rubble and surface search, sorting and tracking. Several of her descendants are therefore trained within the national Police Service and as search dogs for practice and sport. Power’s father, Rosans Joop, is a service dog with the Eindhoven police with very good investigative earnings. Joop comes from the working dog kennel Rosans, who have bred many service dogs and also many dogs as search dogs for the national Police Service. Power itself is already showing itself very well on all parts of the search work. Power can therefore be used at a young age!

Fellow

Fellow is a descendant of the Signi dogs. His excellent nose – combined with good independence – and a good character made him available very early. Fellow is exceptionally good at searching debris and woodland areas and searching for living and dead people. He has also mastered searching on the water. Fellow could therefore be deployed reliably in these areas at a young age. Signi’s fellow has already made a good contribution in finding drowned people and has been deployed in the Philippines, where he recovered an exceptional number of people under very difficult circumstances.

Signi’s Quick Paddle

Paddle is a descendant of the Signi dogs. The dogs bred by Signi and their descendants have found missing people worldwide, but the Signi dogs are also among the best in search at sport level. Paddles’ purposefulness and self-assurance – combined with an extreme search ability – make it specialist deployable. Paddle has been used as a reserve dog in the Philippines at a young age. In addition, mantrailing has been specially developed for him. He always knows how to find the end of the track via the shortest route. Paddle filters out the right tracks under the most difficult conditions, from city to country, from a few hours old to months, from walking, to the bicycle and if necessary while driving. Paddle has produced amazing results. In addition, Paddle is very good at searching underground, the dead smell is well imprinted on him. Solving a murder is therefore his credit.

Search dogs in training

Signi search dogs places high demands on the dogs that are used. When purchasing the puppy, attention is paid to excellent search ability, drive, courage, hardness, social character, walking ability, agility and swimming ability. The dog is trained from puppy, so that the imprinting of the smells and way of searching is recorded young. During this training only used are a toy or ball, so that no association with food is made. The dogs learn to search ‘alive and dead’, in water, rubble, forest and underground. They also follow traces using mantrails. The dogs are trained for new and very old missing items (a lot of smell versus little smell). This demands a lot of the flexibility of a search dog, but ensures that the dog does not ‘miss’ in practice and is prepared for anything. The young dogs are therefore trained 4-6 times a week and already participate in the real searches, where they immediately get acquainted with the ‘real’ scent. Currently in training:

Signi’s P.D. (Crime scene)

The Malinois Boef of the Old Oak will join the Signi search dog team. Boef renamed to P.D. (Crime Scene) is a combination of Beau of the Old Oak (Dutch and Brabant champion search dogs) x Bonky (Detective dog money with the national police), so searching is in her genes optimally. P.D. is a half sister of Girl Power Signi (G.P.S.) and also bred by the working dog kennel “The Old Oak” (http://www.werkhondenkennel-theoldoak.nl). Littermates of P.D. are in training for explosives dog, drug dog, fire dog and rescue dog.
P.D. is therefore not inferior in quality to its sister. P.D. (Crime scene) was first choice of litter and has already gone through basic search training before she came to Signi. P.D. likes everything to do with searching and the switch to the dead scent was very easy. P.D. is a smart search dog, who is easy to train and mastered in her search work. Since P.D. has mastered the basis for detection searches, Signi has further expanded this extra discipline to refine the search at a crime scene. In addition, P.D. has a great passion for water and will be trained for all disciplines in the search for missing people.
